Plaza was selected by MBIA Insurance Corporation, a leading provider of investment management products and services for both the public and nonprofit sectors, to construct its new office building, parking complex, and renovation of existing headquarters in Armonk, NY.

This multi-phased project included construction of a three-story, 100,000 square foot stand alone parking garage and a four-story, 100,000 square foot annex to MBIA’s existing building.  Phase I of the project consisted of the 100,000 square foot pre-cast concrete parking garage for 310 cars.  Phase II work included construction of a three-story office building with a connecting bridge, constructed of structural steel and concrete on metal deck, and enclosed with an aluminum and glass facade including a 5,000 square foot data center.  Phase III consisted of the renovation of the existing building consistent with the finishes in the new building.  

Originally planned as a 75,000 square foot building to be constructed above grade, a decision was made by MBIA to add an additional 25,000 square foot basement after portions of the foundations were in place. Plaza developed concepts and design schematics to direct the Team’s efforts to design/build a fully habitable basement amenity.  Concepts were submitted on shop drawings and revisions made to release subcontractors to proceed without complete design foundation and structural drawings.  

Plaza’s effective budgeting and scheduling strategies were quickly implemented to both reduce the time and money so that the original completion schedule could be maintained without interruption.

The construction faced a major environmental challenge because of its proximity to nearby New York City watershed property. In order to accommodate the new building, Plaza drained an adjacent pond and kept it dry with the use of a berm while keeping the remaining portion intact.  Following construction, Plaza enlarged the pond to its original size in order to meet strict environmental regulations for water run-offs and for fire protection reserve.
