Maspeth High School
Part of an educational commitment made to the area by the City of New York, the Maspeth campus joins PS 58, School of Heroes, and PS 128, Juniper Valley School in providing K-12 education to the community in new buildings. Located on a former Restaurant Depot site just north of the Long Island Expressway, this new school accommodates approximately 1150 intermediate and high school students.
Provide an overcrowded school district with a much-needed new facility. In addition to 51 classrooms, laboratories and music rooms, the building includes an auditorium, gymnasium, dividable cafeteria and support facilities. At four levels, the building's structural steel frame is supported on a combination of spread footings and mini-piles to achieve bearing in the various strata available. The façade is masonry cavity wall with metal panel detailing and a large storefront wall.
We identify efficiencies throughout construction, and ensure that the final product is a facility that will operate efficiently for many years to come. Heating and air conditioning is supplied from rooftop-packaged high efficiency units, supplemented with perimeter hydronic system. The school's electrical systems feature state-of-the-art network and communications systems. In support of the local community, Plaza exceeded the SCA's goals of 20% minority participation.
