Plaza was selected as the construction manager for Eleven Times Square, the newest office building in Manhattan’s most exciting business district. The 38,000 square foot site is located on 42nd Street & Eighth Avenue. As part of our role as construction manager, Plaza, at the request of the Port Authority, had to oversee the installation of a new entrance to the 8th Avenue subway line, at the southeast corner of West 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. One of the challenges with the construction of this entrance was an existing 48 inch sewer line that blocked the new entrance. To solve this problem, the sewer line was rerouted around the new entrance stairs and escalators. Most of this work had to be done at night as not to disturb the routine of daily activity in this busy area of town. Plaza also had to coordinate with Con Edison on relocating electrical primary & secondary feeders, the process was able to be completed without using new wiring. A portion of the existing station was removed and replaced with new steel and concrete to accommodate the new entrance. The new entrance includes escalators and stairs; finish materials include granite wall panels, aluminum and stainless steel wall and ceiling panels. Work done to the existing station was able to be completed without disruption of service to the 8th Avenue line and the existing public spaces.
